Synopsis

Our favourite  Semi-Soet couple, Jaci and JP Basson, are back! Now happily married to each other—and, of course, still to their jobs at the advertising agency Mojo—we catch up with the Bassons and their best friends, Karla and Hertjie Greyling, as they navigate a new phase in their lives. Their business and families have grown exponentially over the years, and the friends find themselves confronting the age-old question: Is a work-life balance actually possible?

JP is vying for an exclusive deal that would require him to spend half the year in Dubai. Neither his wife nor his friends are keen on the idea of him commuting, so when a lucrative opportunity to launch an American baby brand in Africa arises, they’re determined to win it in lieu of the Dubai deal.

‘yBab,’ founded and owned by South African-born Marietjie Koekemoer, is one of America’s most trusted baby product ranges and is currently searching for a marketing agency to assist with their rollout on the African continent. As a precursor to the launch, ex-pat Marietjie and her ‘yBab’ team have organised a weekend getaway at the luxurious Hazendal Wine Estate. During this fun-filled weekend, ‘yBab’ will introduce their range to a select audience of retailers, influencers, press, and, of course, the agencies competing for the honour of representing ‘yBab’ on African soil.

Things heat up when the Mojo team discovers they will be pitted against JDW, an agency run by JP’s high school nemesis, Joubert de Waal. With his picture-perfect family, Joubert’s JDW, seems like the obvious choice to win the ‘yBab’ contract, prompting the Mojo team to bring their A-game to impress Marietjie.

Upon arriving at Hazendal, Karla and Hertjie overhear an awkward conversation between JP and Joubert, where Joubert practically claims victory, insinuating that JP and Jaci are deluded if they think they can pitch for a family brand without a ‘family.’ To the astonishment of both Jaci and JP, Karla materialises out of thin air and hands them her 4-month-old baby boy, Henry. With the words, “There you go, that’s the last time I’m changing YOUR baby’s diaper this weekend”, Jaci and JP become instant parents.

Suddenly, our heroes find themselves in a situation that feels all too familiar. Instead of pretending to be a happily engaged couple as they did in ‘Semi-Soet,’ this time, they need to be pretend parents! Marietjie is immediately taken with Henry, which disrupts Joubert’s carefully laid plans to clinch the ‘yBab’ account. Sensing something amiss, Joubert is determined to uncover Team Mojo’s secret, watching their every move.

For JP and Jaci, becoming instant parents leads to hilarious shenanigans as the workaholic couple faces dirty diapers, a screaming baby, sleepless nights, and the burning question: Is it possible to have a career and a family? This question becomes even more pressing when Jaci discovers that she is in fact not in early menopause but is expecting her and JP’s very unplanned first child—a secret she decides to keep to herself until she figures out the best way to break the news to JP.

As with all little white lies, theirs escalates to the brink of disaster. With the ‘yBab’ contract hanging in the balance and JP and Jaci’s relationship on the rocks, JP decides to take matters into his own hands and secure the Dubai deal instead. Will revealing the truth about her pregnancy save their relationship, or will JP still leave for Dubai? Is their love strong enough to endure this new adventure of starting a family? Only the truth will tell…
