Lesego and Boom Shaka are two slacking township buddies in their mid-20s who waste their days building castles in the sky, drinking boxed wine and smoking marijuana. Lesego is an orphan who was raised by her enabling grandmother, Dipuo while Boom Shaka is a product of a big family thus her hustling nature.
After Boom Shaka fails to settle a thousand Rand debt she owes the local loan shark, Dollar, he catches up with her while she’s with Lesego waiting for Thabiso, the DSTV installer, to come set up Dipuo’s new 61”TV. Dollar and his henchmen confiscate the TV, threatening to sell it to recover the money he’s owed, unless he receives his money by sunset.
Lesego is furious with Boom Shaka fearing that Dipuo will kick her out should they fail to recover the TV. Boom Shaka assures her that they’ll get it back and suggests gambling to raise the money. They head to an underground casino in the squatter camps where young women gamble with their children’s SASSA grant money. They’re on a winning streak but eventually lose everything.
Desperate, the two friends embark on one hilarious, hairbrained scheme after another to come up with the thousand Rand before sunset – everything from hairdressing to extortion . Their blind faith and in their own abilities, naivete and ham-fisted execution lead to a series of comical exploits that will either save the day or see Lesego evicted by Dipuo.
